Douglas J. Blakeman, age 85, late of Dolton. U.S. Army Korean War Veteran. Beloved husband of Frances nee Battles who lovingly cared for him through sickness and health for almost 60 years. Devoted father of Kathy Balestri, Mary (Julie Allen) and the late David (Denise) Blakeman. Proud papa of Mark, Douglas, Jacob, David and the late Kaitlyn and Kristy. Puppy papa of Lucy, Mollie and Bella. Kind son of the late Douglas and Elizabeth nee Kandziora. Dear brother of the late Betty, Bill, Hugo, Audrey, Esther, Sydney and Robert. Doug attended IIT at Navy Pier, focusing on mechanical drafting and engineering. He was the Chief Mechanical Draftsman Engineer at Chicago Dreis and Krump where he retired from at the age of 78. He was a prankster, famous for his food fights, paper ball fights, and crop dusting Fran in public. Known as the "candyman" for his sweet tooth. Doug would do anything for anyone, including their taxes. He loved his family more than anything, helped raise his grandsons Jake and Mark and had a very special relationship with his granddaughter Kaitlyn. Doug will be missed by all who knew him, we will especially miss his hugs. Visitation Friday, from 3-9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at THORNRIDGE FUNERAL HOME (Janusz Family Funeral Service), 15801 S. Cottage Grove Ave., four blocks North of 162nd St. (Rte. 6) Dolton/ South Holland. Interment St. John/St. Joseph Cemetery.
