Hilda Esther Mackey, age 93, late of Riverdale, known by most of her friends and family as Esther and also by many as simply "Mackey." Devoted daughter of the late John and Hilda Mackey; preceded in death by four dear brothers Urho, Martin, Neal and George and her long time companion Betty Fiddelke; loving aunt and great-aunt of many nieces and nephews.  Upon graduation from Warren G. Harding High School in 1946, Esther moved to the Chicago area from her hometown of Warren, Ohio to pursue her dream of playing women's professional softball in the National Girls Baseball League.  She played 7 years for several of the women's pro teams active in the Chicago area, mainly the Parichy Bloomer Girls.  In the off-season, she played on basketball teams made up of many of the same gals who played professional softball.  She was a retired Ingalls Hospital X-ray tech with 34 years of dedicated service.  Watching sports on TV was one of her favorite things to do, and over the years she was also an avid participant in softball, bowling, and golf leagues.  She was a huge fan of the Chicago Bears, Bulls, and White Sox.  Some of her other favorite pastimes over the years were: traveling with friends, tailgating at Chicago Bears games and hosting pool parties every summer in her backyard.  She was very proud of her Finnish heritage, having grown up in a Finnish speaking home.  She will be greatly missed by her many cherished friends, neighbors, and family members.
