Frederick Price Boulais of Carrboro, NC completed his life's journey of ninety seven years on December 7th, 2022.
Fred was born on September 27th, 1925 to Frederick J. and Alpha Jane (nee Mathews) in Chicago, Illinois. He always had a brilliant mind and a love for mathematics. As a high schooler he was on the Euclidean team, Bowling team, Track team, and boosters. He would go on to attend the Illinois Institute of Technology studying Industrial Engineering, graduating in 1950. While at IIT, Fred was a part of the Western Society of Engineers and the Bowling Club, and he was the recording secretary for the Society for Advancement of Management. Fred loved being as involved as he could within his careers and neighborhood. He would make his way up to become the director of operations of the material handling division, world wide, for Interlake Steel, the President of Speedrack, as well as the President of the Chamber of Commerce in Pontiac, Illinois.
Fred married Phyllis (nee Golaxon) in 1953 and would go on to adopt three wonderful children over the span of a few years to create their beautiful family. He was Honorably Discharged from the United States Army after serving in both the Second World War and the Korean War. In the late 60's, Fred would be a part of the trio to invent and patent the pallet rack shelving system. Their family would move from Dolton, Illinois to Pontiac, Illinois, to finally choosing Orland Park, Illinois as the family's final homestead.
After losing Phyllis, Fred reacquainted himself with an old friend, Leokadya "Lily" (nee Kozlowski Connelly). They would go on to get married in 1991 and settle down in North Carolina where they both lived out the rest of their lives. Fred had a love for traveling world wide and vacationing across the country. Hilton Head, SC became one of his favorite destinations, and he loved to invite his friends and family. Fred always made a point to visit with as many friends as he could when he would return to the Chicagoland area on trips.
Fred was preceded in death by his two loving wives, the late Phyllis and Leokadya, as well as his son, the late Kevin (Virginia) Boulais. He is survived by his son Frederick J. (Carole) and his daughter Gail (Ray) Ekberg. Fred had four step-children: Edward, John, David, and Grace.
