Eugene C. "Gene" Umland, age 86, U.S. Army Korean Veteran, late of Matteson. Beloved husband for 64 years of Elaine nee Luering; devoted father of Julie (John) McSwain, Kathie (James) Francesconi, and Margie (Brian) D'Apice; proud grandfather of Nicole (Justin) Galyon, Joshua (Kate) McSwain, Staci Hill, Daniel (Cheyenne) Francesconi, Ryanne (Hayden) Martin, Gina (Robert) Ruiz, and Joseph Francesconi; cherished great-grandfather of Luke and Logan Galyon, Andrew Hill, Rory and Hayes Martin, and Willow Francesconi; loving son of the late Clarence and Clara Umland; dear brother of the late Gerald (late Edith) Umland; kind uncle of Denise (C.J.) Manson, Laura Guy, and Kimberly Scherer. Gene was a meat cutter for 40 years at Hartman's in Steger, and he retired from Bimba Manufacturing Company in Monee with many years of dedicated service. Lying-in-state Friday, December 17, 2021 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 4800 Sauk Trail, Richton Park, IL 60471. Interment Private.
