Obituary

Jim passed away peacefully at home, holding the hand of his wife of 75 years, Josephine. Nearly 97, Jim lived an extraordinary life that began with hard work at age nine, helping his parents make ends meet. Though a strong student, baseball often pulled him away from his studies, yet coaching would change his life when a young player caught his eye and, four years later, became his wife.

Unable to afford college, Jim managed to attend a two-year business school, which led to a mailroom job at Standard Oil of Indiana. His work ethic, organization, and determination quickly earned him promotions. After serving in Korea, he returned to Standard Oil, advanced further, and built a life for his growing family in Chicago.

Family always came first. When it was time for his sons to attend high school, Jim moved the family to the suburbs so they could have greater opportunities. He encouraged them to work hard and pursue education, and he was deeply proud that all three graduated from university and built successful careers.

Later, Jim worked in Egypt for Amoco Oil, where his leadership and "can-do" spirit helped change business culture and open doors for many people, especially the Egyptian women he recognized and elevated.. He and Josephine were embraced by a remarkable community of Egyptian friends who became like family and are still friends today.

Jim, the eldest of five, is survived by his beloved wife Josephine; sons Michael (Gay), Stephen (d.), Chris (Kathi), and Gary (Margaret); and seven grandchildren: Michael, Rachael, Alexandra, Melissa, Santino, Francesca, and Lucca.
