Joan T. Maloney (née O'Donnell) was the daughter of Thomas and Margaret O'Donnell. Born in 1931 and raised in East Chicago, Indiana with her 4 Siblings, Tom, Marnie, Rita and Jim. Even though her siblings were all living in different states, they remained close.

Joan was a graduate of Bishop Noll High School. She attended Mary Crest College in Davenport Iowa and received her B A degree in Education at Indiana University. She was employed as a health educator at Lake County Indiana Tuberculosis Association. In this position she gave lectures to Industrial and Manufacturing Plants. Joan was a Substitute teacher (Language Arts) and worked at South Suburban Community College in their Resource Center. Along with other positions Joan held she also found time to serve on the South Holland Cancer Society Board, Chairwoman & Committee Member of St Jude the Apostle Church and raise six beautiful children.

Joan and Tom Maloney married in May of 1957 and soon started their family in South Holland, Illinois.

In the early years of marriage, Joan was a "Domestic Engineer" while Tom was starting his electrical business with his partners. Tom went on to build a company that held many long-term contracts that made us all proud. His family always knew, when the lights went on at Comiskey Park and the score board lit up, Tom and his company were hard at work!

While Joan held several positions, her best memories are when the kids were growing up. Three (3) girls, Molly, Keary and Katie and Three (3) boys, Tom, Bill and Jim kept this family busy! Once or twice a year the eight of us would pack up the motor home and take off on an adventure. Whether we were driving through the Pacific Coast of San Diego California reminiscing about Tom's days in the Navy, driving the 40 foot motor home up Pikes peak (only to find out Motor homes were NOT allowed) or Skiing the Mountains of Aspen Colorado, we made memories to last a life time.

Tom and Joan shared 63 years of married life together. They are known for throwing many fantastic parties.  Whether it was a "surprise party" at 6 a.m. or a party of 150 of their closest friends, there was ALWAYS a reason for Joan to say, "LIFE IS A CELEBRATION".
