John J. Quirke, age 81, U.S. Army Veteran, late of Chicago formerly of Dolton and Apple River, IL, passed away on April 29, 2015. Beloved husband of the late Donna Jean nee Radja; proud father of Carol (Quinn Cushing) of Brooklyn, NY, Sharon (Phil Reece) of Belvidere, Michael of Chicago and Sheila (Jeremy Hornik) of Chicago; cherished grandfather of Alex, Carolyn and Jakob Reece and Jay, Adler and the late Donna Quirke-Hornik; dear brother of Sr. Kieran Therese, O.P., Mrs. Eileen Linden and the late Sr. Mary Cecile, O.P. and Mrs. Loretta Cafarelli; dearest brother-in-law of James (Carol) Radja, Dolores (David) Frost and Thomas (Jeanne) Radja; uncle of twenty-eight nieces and nephews and cousin of many. Known for his deep love of Chicago and his Irish heritage, John instilled that love in all of his children. The majority of his work life was spent in transportation with the Pennsylvania and the EJ&E Railroads as well as the RTA/PACE from which he retired in 1994. Visitation Friday, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Saturday, 9:15 a.m. from Thornridge Funeral Home (Janusz Family Funeral Service), 15801 S. Cottage Grove Ave., four blocks North of 162nd St. (Rte. 6) Dolton/South Holland to St. Jude the Apostle Church Mass 10:00 a.m. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Baldrick's (Donna's Good Things Campaign) or the Irish American Heritage Center.
