Keith Yvonne Hamberlin, beloved educator, musician, civil rights advocate, and cherished mother, passed away peacefully, leaving a legacy that spanned music, activism, and compassionate service. Born on February 21, 1941, in Burlington, North Carolina, she attended Jordan Sellars High School before pursuing higher education at Knoxville College in Tennessee, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in Education.

An active supporter of the Civil Rights Movement, Keith worked in several schools in North Carolina before moving to Chicago, where she became a transformative figure at Crane High School as the Music Chair. Her dedication led to numerous academic and musical achievements, a trend she continued at Morgan Park High School until her retirement at 55.

Her passion for learning took her to New York University, Brown University, and Northwestern University, where she furthered her studies in music theory. She completed her Master's degree at Governor's State University in 1996, exemplifying her belief in lifelong education.

In her retirement, she embraced world travel, explored music across cultures, and devoted time to volunteering with The Salvation Army. Keith's enduring faith and love of community remained constant, and she was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Burlington.

She is survived by her devoted husband, McKinley Hamberlin; her sons, Shaun (Pamela) Hamberlin and Shane (Candace) Hamberlin; her daughter, Sheila (Douglas) Porter; her living siblings, Kenneth Warren (Ora) and Joyce W. Enoch. She was preceded in death by her siblings George, Edward, Carolyn Pennington, and Linda Warren. She is also lovingly remembered by many wonderful grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of cherished friends and former students who will carry her memory in their hearts.

Memorial Visitation Saturday, November 16, from 11:00 AM, until the time of the Memorial Service at 12:00 PM, at Thornridge Funeral Home (Janusz Family Funeral Service) 15801 S. Cottage Grove Ave. (four blocks North of 162nd St. / Rt. 6) Dolton / South Holland. Interment Private.
