Obituary

Marion A. King, age 92, U.S. Army Korean War Veteran, late of Homer Glen formerly of Matteson. Beloved husband of Rita nee Masching; devoted father of Monica (Jim) Lee, Marcia (Garry) Rivera, and Matthew (Kelly) King; proud grandfather of Amber (J.P.), Michael (Jen), Melinda, Jocelyn (Jesse), Mitchell, Madeline, Stephanie, Paige, Bailey, Gabriella, Carter, Hannah, and Caroline; dear brother of Louis King, Jim Tavares, the late Lucille Hunt and Geraldine Joyce; kind uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Marion grew up in a small rural farming community before moving to the "big city," but you could never take the farm boy fully out of him. His grandchildren especially loved seeing this part of him as it meant tractor rides on Grandpa's lap when younger. Through setting up roots outside the farm, Marion helped plan and organize the annual 216th Block Parties for 30+ years, received Matteson's Good Neighbor Award, and was a 59-year parishioner of St. Lawrence O'Toole.
Marion served in the Korean War, upon discharge he was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He was a lifelong Chicago Cub's fan who enjoyed seeing them clinch the World Series. You could always catch him with the radio on, listening to the game. Marion enjoyed golf and was so proud of his hole-in-one golf game while basking in his retirement in Florida. Throughout his life, Marion enjoyed an abundance of fun times with family, friends, and grandchildren. During retirement he and Rita enjoyed many winters in Fort Myers, Florida, constantly making many new friends and memories at Plantation Estates.
And recently, Marion had the pleasure of celebrating 60 wonderful years of marriage to his wife Rita.

Visitation Thursday, 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass 11:30 a.m. at Marion Village, 15624 Marian Dr, Homer Glen, IL 60491. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
