Michael J. Kovacs, Sr., age 81, late of Calumet City Native of Hungary. Beloved husband of Judith nee Crabb. Loving father of Michael Jr. (Lisa) and Robert (Barbara) Kovacs. Proud grandpa of Michael Kovacs III, Cara Kovacs, Amy Kovacs, Debra (Esteban) Corral and Robert Kovacs. Dear son of the late József and Erzsébet nee Szabó. Kind brother of Erzsébet and Irén and the late István, József, Mária, Béla, János, András and Margit. Uncle, cousin, and friend of many. Michael lived an extraordinary life in his 81 years. He came to America in 1957, personally escorted by Vice President Nixon on the Air Force Two, after being actively involved in the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. Michael was a good man, a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus Coronata Council #3806, a humanitarian and community activist, a pro bowler named in the bowling hall of fame, and an inventor with numerous patents. He was a great story teller with much to say. His family and friends will remember the stories, the energy, the craziness, the humor, and mostly, the love. Visitation Sunday, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. at Thornridge Funeral Home (Janusz Family Funeral Service), 15801 S. Cottage Grove Ave., four blocks North of 162nd St. (Rte. 6) Dolton/ South Holland. Funeral Mass Monday, 10:00 a.m. directly at St. Victor Church, 553 Hirsch Ave., Calumet City. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to The Hospice of the Calumet Area or to the family.
