Robert Milton "Bob" Fasiang, of Merrillville, IN, (formerly of Whiting, IN, Calumet City, IL, and Crete, IL) passed away in Merrilville, IN, 95 years young. Bob was born at home in Chicago on Sept. 22, 1927, to Slovak immigrant parents, Frank Gaspar Fasiang and Mary Barbara (née Masura) Fasiang. He married Dorothy Ann (née Martinovich) from the Eastside of Chicago on Sept. 3, 1955, and moved to Calumet City where they raised their five children.

Bob moved to Whiting, IN, at age 3 and graduated from St. John the Baptist Grade School in 1941 and George Rogers Clark High School in Hammond, IN, in 1945. Bob attended Indiana University Extension for two years in East Chicago and one year at the Bloomington campus and received a B.S. in Accounting from Walton School of Commerce in Chicago in 1950. Bob worked as an accountant in the Chicago loop and south suburbs for 38 years.

During the Korean War Bob was drafted into the Army Chemical Corps for two years as Assistant Budget Director for the Germ Warfare program at Camp Detrick, MD. While at Camp Detrick he was a star pitcher for the baseball team with a record of eight wins and four losses. He served as past Commander of American Legion Post 305 in Chicago and Finance Officer for three years and maintained a 60 year life membership with Post 330 in Calumet City.

Bob was a member of the Boy Scouts of America for 85 years, starting in 1938. He earned Eagle Scout rank in 1946. His leadership roles included Troop 216 Scoutmaster for 13 years, Explorer, Venture and Air Scout Advisor for 24 years, Pack, Troop and Post 216 Chairman for 30 years, and scout leader at Pack and Troop 152 for five years and Troop 276 for one year. He was honored with a number of high adult scouter awards and recognition including District Award of Merit, Silver Beaver, Lodge Service Award, Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor, Order of the Arrow Founders' Award, Bronze Pelican Award, St. George Emblem, Wood Badge, and Eagle Class Honoree. He chaired Peace Pipe District Scout Alumni reunions for 33 years.

Bob's spirit of adventure led him to pursue many activities. Bob sang with the St. John Church choir in Whiting for nine years and the St. Victor Church choir in Calumet City for 38 years. His bowling teams won eight championships in 60 years. He managed Little League teams in Calumet City for five years winning one championship and Babe Ruth teams for three years. He went to Wrigley Field for 84 years to cheer on the Cubs. He was also a diehard Bears, Bulls, and Notre Dame fan. Bob organized class reunions for St. John the Baptist since 1991 and G.R. Clark since 2013, as well as the Pearl Field Gang for many years. After retirement, Bob spent 31 years as a Senior Olympian, winning 12 medals at 14 Nationals. Bob co-authored the book Slovaks of Chicagoland . Some of his other hobbies included photography, genealogy, and playing pinochle.

Bob is survived by his sister, Sister M. Brigid SSCM (Martha); five children: Susan (Alan) Borsari, Meg (Scott) Murphey, Amy (Dave) Nissen, Katy (Michael) Denight, and Rob Fasiang; eight grandchildren: Gina (Mike) Valerius, Julia (Matt) Huffaker, Gregory Borsari, Sarah (Ben) Brooks, Rachel (Ben) Schoepf, Philip (Ann) Denight, Emily (David) Denight Kelly, and Jeffy (Frankie) Denight; five great-grandchildren: Louis and Mia Valerius, Wiley Denight, Houston Schoepf, Matthew Huffaker and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy (2020), younger brothers Joseph (Janet) and Thomas (Rosalie) Fasiang and brothers-in-law, Frank (Marjorie) and Robert (Kathleen) Martinovich.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation on Monday, April 3, 2023, from 4-7:30 p.m., with Order of the Arrow ceremony at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Tuesday, April 4, 10:15 a.m. from Thornridge Funeral Home (Janusz Family Funeral Service) 15801 S. Cottage Grove Ave., four blocks North of 162nd Street (Rte. 6) Dolton / South Holland, to Our Lady of Knock Church, 501 163rd St, Calumet City, IL. Mass will be at 11 AM.

Private Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Evergreen Park, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Sisters of Saints Cyril and Methodius or Christopher May Campership Fund (c/o Pathway to Adventure Council BSA).
