Ronald Joseph Hicks, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, educator, and friend, died at Franciscan Village in Lemont, Illinois, on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. He was 87 years old.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Eldon and Mae Hicks, and his brother, Jerry. He is survived by his beloved wife, Roselee. They shared a beautiful marriage for over 61 years. He is also survived by their sons, Archbishop Ronald A. Hicks and Richard J. Hicks (Mary Beth). He was a proud grandfather to Grant (Tiffany), Nolan (Halee), and Justin (Emily), and a great-grandfather to Ivy (4) and Hadley (2).
Ron earned his undergraduate degree from Northern Illinois University and a master's degree from DePaul University. He dedicated his life to teaching, serving at Thornton and Thornwood High Schools. A natural athlete, runner, and ardent Cubs fan, he also enjoyed playing and watching all sports. He had a gentle heart and a kind disposition.
Ron devotedly practiced his Catholic faith throughout his entire life. He received all of his sacraments at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Parish on the Southside of Chicago, raised his family at St. Jude the Apostle in South Holland, and was a longtime devoted member of St. Elizabeth Seton Parish in Orland Hills. His faith shaped the way he loved his family, treated others, and lived each day. He would be heartened by your prayers for his intention and his family.
A visitation will be held this Saturday, October 17, 2026 at St. Elizabeth Seton Parish on 9300 W. 167th St., Orland Hills, IL, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Concelebrating priests are asked to bring an alb and white stole, along with a letter of good standing. A private interment for the immediate family will follow the funeral mass.
