Samuel R. Winemiller Sr., age 84, U.S. Army Veteran, of Whittington, IL passed away peacefully at home in Homewood, IL on July 1, 2018, surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Carol (Mamoo) Schoon for 61 years. Proud and devoted father of Samuel R. Winemiller Jr. and Julie Alisa (Andy) Fluckey. Proud grandfather of Alisa Jennafer and Lyle David Soliday. Loving great-grandfather of Kaine Samuel Decker. Sam was employed for 25 years with Wyman-Gordon, and 10 years with Modern Drop Forge subsidiaries. Poppa (Sam) was an accomplished golfer and was thrilled that Sammy enjoyed playing with him. He loved watching sports of all kinds and also enjoyed crossword puzzles. He was a strong, driven man who, in spite of crippling rheumatoid arthritis, enjoyed walking every day. He was the kindest, most gentle person that never met a stranger. He was a true hero to his family. Everyone he met was touched by his passion for life. He lived his life to the fullest. Private service will be held at a later date at Shiloh Cemetery, Whittington, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials directed to the American Cancer Society, the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society or the South Suburban Humane Society.
